About Mara Weyel: She lives and works in Augsburg, Germany. Mara Weyel holds a Diploma in Design / Master of Arts, having studied at the Hochschule Augsburg, the École Estienne in Paris, and completed study periods at the University of the Arts London.
Mara began her professional career in the design field, working for 15 years as an Art Director in a leading design agency in Augsburg. Since 2022, she has been working independently, providing design solutions for a variety of clients. Her teaching career started in 2025 at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Augsburg, where she lectures on Visual Communication.
Mara’s educational and professional background continues to inform her work, providing analytical precision and structural clarity in both her design and artistic practice.

DESIGN:
Mara Weyel is a passionate graphic designer with a focus on typography, color, and visual storytelling. In every project, she aims not only to create designs but to tell stories that come to life through the careful choice of colors, shapes, images, illustrations, and fonts.
Much like a type consultation, where every detail is tailored to individual needs, she carefully defines the elements that shape a corporate identity, website, or brochure. Through her work, Mara creates a unique visual language that is not only distinctive but also authentically aligned with her clients’ identities.
Her design approach balances conceptual rigor with expressive creativity, resulting in solutions that are both structured and visually engaging. Her work has been recognized with awards including the German Design Award and European Design Award.

ART:
In her artistic work, Mara Weyel approaches the body as a political material and a projection of societal norms, while also seeing it as a site of resistance, self-empowerment, and redefinition. Central to her practice is the female-perceived body, which she does not simply depict but analyzes, transforms, and reconfigures.
Her path into independent art is marked by a conscious break. After completing a Diploma in Design/Master of Arts in Augsburg and  Paris, with study periods at the University of the Arts London, she initially worked in design. The relatively late transition into fine art was a deliberate choice for conceptual openness and content-driven radicality. Her design training continues to influence her artistic practice, providing analytical sharpness and structural clarity, while she challenges visual systems and contrasts clean design languages with raw, expressive, and intentionally bold works.
Her approach engages with human playfulness while also “repairing” seemingly broken elements, understood as a process of self-healing. Through fragmentation, reordering, and dissolution, she creates spaces in which identity is visible as a mutable, evolving process. Her works in painting, installation, and sculpture combine formal precision with a tangible physical presence, showing the body as a carrier of experience, memory, and social coding, rather than as an idealized form.
Mara has received awards including the Roy Pop Culture Award, and  presented a solo exhibition at the Textilmuseum Augsburg (TIM). She also works as a curator, realizing exhibitions such as untenrum at Kunsthalle UG, is active in the association Schöne Felder e.V., and continues to teach at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Augsburg.
Her work reshapes perceptions of corporeality, treating the body not as a motif but as a negotiation space where societal norms are made visible and redefined.
