Artist Statement: Mara Weyel is a female and feminist artist from Germany. She studied design at the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences and completed a stay abroad (Communication Visuelle) in Paris. After short study visits to London, she had her first major solo exhibition at TIM (Staatliches Textilmuseum Augsburg) in autumn 2023, where she presented her works. In her work, she often reflects on her own experiences and emotions and uses different media and techniques to convey her messages.

In her art, she creates interdisciplinary artworks that emerge from her inner self and the demands of the outside world. Her roots are in painting, but her artistic journey has taken her through performance, installation and sculpture. For her, the Gesamtkunstwerk is of central importance, characterised by complexity and depth of content.

The expression of the body in the context of social norms are central themes of the works. Mara Weyel deconstructs the body in order to create new forms of living environments and scrutinise its role in modern society. A recurring motif is the examination of physicality and the freedom of children, which she illuminates from a feminist perspective. Weyel scrutinises social expectations and norms and aims to encourage reflection with her art. She finds inspiration when travelling to the inner and outer world, where she incorporates what she has experienced and felt into her works.
Paintings, installations and performances thematise the relationship of the body to society, offering space for interaction and reflection, while the clay works explore new dimensions of physicality. Each work is a fragment of a larger whole, an ongoing exploration of human existence and the social structures that characterise us.
Her art invites us to discover new ways of thinking and to embark on a journey of self-discovery.
